Question: What do you hope to learn from this internship?

Answer: I hope to learn more about what sports radio is like both on air and behind the scenes in a major market.  In Houston, there is opportunity to cover something all the time so during the summer, there is no decline in sports as the Astros and Texans (offseason) are in full force.  I hope to meet many people here and others that I run into out at the scene.  Those that are already out there making a living in the field are invaluable and can be very helpful down the road.

Question: What have you actually learned from this internship?

Answer: I have learned a great deal more than I knew coming in about interviewing.  It has been fun learning about the behind the scenes of talking to players in the locker room and after practice.  I have learned what a good audio cut is, at least I think I know.  It's not easy.  Robert makes things fun and challenging at the same time.

Question: What’s the coolest thing that has happened during this internship so far?

Answer: The coolest thing to happen so far would probably be getting to see members of the Houston Texans swing for the fences for a great cause.  Their home run derby at Minute Maid Park to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Houston was a great event to watch.  It was also great to meet Eric Winston.  He came on the air with Matt and Rich after he finished the event belting two balls into the upper deck in right field.  Ohh, and keep a bat OUT of Andre Johnson's hands...eek.

Question: What would you like to tell our listeners about working at SR 610?

Answer: Working at SR 610 has been a great experience.  I have been able to meet many people and get up close with members of the Texans and Astros.  After being a producer, update guy, and host for a sports talk show on our campus radio station at Sam Houston State, I had an understanding how much effort went into a show.  The difference was our show was once a week, not every weekday.  It is a lot of effort to hear the updates that are read at the top, :20, and :40 of the hours.

Question: Tell us something about the people you’ve met at SR 610.

Answer: Everyone I have met at SR 610 is great. I feel like I have been welcomed in with open arms and am always greeted with a smiling face.  Robert is a great guy to work with.  He is in charge of the sports flashes in the afternoons for the Afternoon Drive Time Players.  When we go down to the ballpark, it's fun to just chat about sports.  The other people I have met are really nice.  Laura is great, helping me out a bunch and giving me the opportunity to expand my resources to help out as much as I can.
