Question: What do you hope to learn from this internship?

Answer: I hope to learn how a sports talk radio station works, both on the production side and on the air. I also hope to meet people in the industry who can help me in the future in terms of pursuing a job whether in the media or with a sports franchise in Houston.

Question: What have you actually learned from this internship?

Answer: I have learned, as Chris has taught me, that it takes a lot to produce the show each day. I also have learned that being on air is all about being relaxed and just being myself. Also, I have learned that the listeners pay attention to just about everything said on air, including me. Finally, I have learned about unhealthy smoothies and BLTs. Getting breakfast is the most important part of my job by far.

Question: What’s the coolest thing that has happened during this internship so far?

Answer: Getting to be on air is pretty cool. I tell all my friends to listen to the morning show whenever they get a chance so that they can hear me read promos and talk with the guys. Also, meeting a Heisman trophy winner was very cool, even though I only knew him for a few weeks. Finally, talking to guests (Daryl Morey, Lil Flip) on the phone and meeting them in studio has been fun.

Question: What would you like to tell our listeners about working at SR 610?

Answer: Working at SR 610 has been a great experience thus far. All the people I work with are really cool and have offered me tips and insights into the business. Radio might seem easy on the outside, but production is very important and makes the shows fun. I’ve also learned that working at a radio station has something new to offer every day. Interesting people are always stopping by the studio.

Question: Tell us something about the people you’ve met at SR 610.

Answer: Everyone is really cool at SR 610. Marc is really funny and laid back and knows a lot about sports. He also enjoys challenging Adam Clanton to do 25 push-ups and then proving he can do more by doing 30. As for Adam, he does a lot of impressions and is not very fond of baseball. He loves the Rockets and enjoys having me read promotional liners as often as possible. Producers Chris (Philadelphia super fan) and Rolyn (Ralow) are both really awesome as well. They both have taught me a lot about production and radio in general. The Sunday Block Party guys are just crazy. That’s really the only way to describe them. Finally, I have to mention Andre, even though he is gone now. I wish him the best at ESPN. He may be gone from SR 610, but the smell of that skunk he hit on the way to work on his final day will remain forever.
