John Lopez, heard weekdays mornings 6am-11am on SportsRadio 610 gives his take on the Texans/49ers:
By John P. Lopez
"The Texans win. Schaub does his thing. Slaton fumbles. Defense steps up in the nick of time. And now the Bills game looms huge.
OK, that's my take on Sunday's game. Now, let's get to the real story.
I got to join the all-female Golden Knights parachuting team and the Blackhawk crews for their jump and flyover at the Texans-49ers game. Greatest. Thing. Ever.
It was loud. Cold. Windy. My stomach went this way and that way with every bank. There was some anxiousness over a thin strap keeping me from flying out of the craft. And it was so cold and windy that even my eyebrows got bed-hair.
But it was quite the trill ride. The three team members were Khalida "Hal" Hendricks, Angela Nichols and Laura Dickmeyer.
They were WAY cool, as was the entire Blackhawk Army Ranger crews.
Going up there, I have a whole new outlook and respect for people in their line of work. It was incredibly windy and the craft shook everything inside me. When the craft would bank to one side or the other, it felt as if I would fly out of the doors (which stayed open the entire trip).
During the pre-flight briefing, I was told, "If you have to vomit, do it down your shirt. Nobody else wants your stuff."
They call the seats where I was strapped in, the "Hurricane Seats" for good reason. The ladies nearly didn't do the jump. It was VERY windy and theynearly aborted, but Hal and Laura talked the team leader, Angela, into it. Everything went off without a hitch.
The crews, from the pilots to the gunners, were very helpful and talented.
I can't think of anything scarier than one of these blackhawks bearing down on an enemy point.
When the ladies did the jump, it was wild. When we did the flyover -- less than 200-feet above reliant -- I could make out faces. It looked as if we could reach out and touch the roof.
Respect and appreciate the military, folks. They do things other's don't. Or, can't."
Brady, Manning, Brees … and Matt Schaub?
By John P. Lopez
"Anytime the subject of best quarterback in the league is mentioned, it isn’t difficult rattling off the top players in the league.
Peyton Manning. Tom Brady. Drew Brees. And, and, uh … Texans quarterback Matt Schaub?
It’s true. Or at least it’s true if you consider statistics a reliable measure of a quarterback’s NFL worth.
Here’s what a little digging in the league’s statistical vault found. Keep in mind these numbers reflect the last full season for each of these players, including playoffs. So, we looked back to the 2007 season in the case of Brady, who was injured throughout 2008, and did not count other games missed by injury for others.
Nevertheless, Manning has thrown for 4,345-yards and 31 touchdowns in his last 16 NFL starts. Brady has thrown 4,759-yards and 41 touchdowns in his last 16 NFL starts, which dates to his amazing 2007 season. Brees has thrown for 4,796-yards and 38 touchdowns in his last 16 NFL starts.
Yet Schaub has taken a back seat to neither of those stars statistically speaking, throwing for 4,714-yards and 29 touchdowns in his last 16 NFL starts.
For the 2009 season, Schaub currently ranks first in the NFL in touchdowns, second in passing yards and sixth in quarterback rating. Not bad for a guy who continually has to fight off criticism in Houston."
